PlyfantsftHotel index
Sixteen hotels · four categories

Four kinds of hotel, written up one at a time.

Plyfantsft is a small written index of unusual places to sleep: hotels built around an art collection, hotels built around a sleeping capsule, casino hotels, and hotels carved each winter out of ice. Each property gets a few paragraphs rather than a row in a table.

The index

Start with a category.

The four sections are not moods or price brackets. Each one names a structural decision the building has made, and everything in the section follows from it.

The four categories share a habit: each asks the guest to accept a constraint — a public gallery downstairs, a bed the size of a berth, a resort floor that never closes, a room that will be water again by May — and gives something back in return. That trade is what the writing here tries to describe.

Entries stick to the durable character of a property: what the building is, where it stands, how it is organised, what it is known for. Prices, menus and seasons are left to the hotels themselves.
